Wow, Saturday night was magical. It’s a joy to have excellent actors read your words. And then tell you after what’s wrong with the play as it is. Plus it was great reconnecting with old colleagues and meeting a new actor. It was in someone’s space, not some impersonal bar or such, which made it even more magical.
Now the really fun part. Rewriting.
Eeee! I’m so excited! Going to have some actors I know and love, and a new actor who I’m looking forward to meeting.
I’ll be very interested to see how my words sound spoken out loud. I mean, I’m always loving that, but this will actually be my first play reading in Toronto, so it’s a milestone of some kind.
If it goes well, of course the next step is…hmm. Either New Ideas or a public play reading.
I’m looking forward to it. I think my actors are too. At least, none of them have cancelled yet.
Well, the seventh draft of a script, anyway. Off to my wonderful actors for a private play reading next week. And then, after that, some kind of public performance. Little things like funds for producing will, I’m sure resolve themselves.
Well, after rewriting a lot of crap, my second draft is at the point where I’m going to put it away overnight, then reopen it tomorrow and have one more go at reviewing/rewriting before it goes off to my actors in preparation for a private script reading next week.
This is scary but fun, like all good arts projects should be.
